How to Save Instagram Photos on iPhone

save instagram photos on iphone

Do you enjoy sharing photos on Instagram? Would you like viewing beautiful amazing photos shared by cool Instagram photographers? I guess you will have this question once you get used to Instagram: How come this marvelous little app doesn’t allow me to save any astonishing photo! It’s well known that the copyright issue probably is the main reason why Instagram doesn’t allow photo downloading among users, but I guess some of you may still want to save one or two photos to view them daily without network or just use as wallpaper. Hence this post will introduce you 3 ways to download Instagram photos on iPhone.

Easy Way 1: Combine the Documents App with Online Instagram Downloader

I have mentioned the Documents app on my another blog post (downloading files from Web to iPhone), and it’s even a great app on downloading Instagram photos because it’s equipped with a powerful built-in browser. All you need is to find a good online Instagram photo downloader, and then you can work with Documents easily.
  1. Install the Documents app on iPhone.
  2. Tap on the browser icon on the bottom right to open the built-in browser of the app.
  3. Copy the web address of an online Instagram downloader and paste it to the built-in browser.
  4. Open Instagram, find the photos you want, and tap on the three dots share button to choose “Copy URL”.
  5. Go back to Documents and paste the URL to the website, then follow the instructions to download the photos.
There are many online websites that help people to save photos even videos from Instagram. You can easily find them on the Internet. Here I list some.
All these websites can work on PC if you prefer using computer.

Easy Way 2: Save Instagram Photos with Workflow

It’s a great new that Apple let Workflow become free, which means a lot of people can save themselves from tedious operations on iPhone without paying money - as money could be one of the reasons that Workflow didn’t get popular among many iOS users. I’ve also mentioned this app on my previous post How to save YouTube videos to iPhone Camera Roll; similarly, you can use this app to save Instagram images on iOS device.
The steps of using Workflow to save Instagram images is similar to saving YouTube videos on iPhone. You can click into the link of my old post or search it on my blog, or you can follow this article to get the detailed steps: How to Save Instagram Photos on iPhone or iPad with Workflow.
Instead of steps, here I will give you several workflow orders to let you work with the app and download photos from Instagram. You can install one of them and run it easily on your iPhone.
If you are familiar with HTML, or know about the web page code, you could try this way. As it’s known to those who work on website, browsers that most people use in common days are the interpreter of html files. Without browsers, any website wouldn’t be what it shown to people, especially for those embed CSS or Java script. If you want to know the page structure of a website, you always can view its page source in browser, which will give you a series of codes. Similarly, you can find the source of an Instagram picture in its page code, but you need to decide which is your target, and that needs a bit knowledge about HTML language.
  1. Log in your Instagram on your computer browser, and then find the photo you want.
  2. Right click your mouse and choose “”View Page Source”.
  3. Then you will reach the source code of this page. Press the shortcut key Ctrl+F (Win)/Command +F (Mac) to get the search bar, then enter “jpg” to find you image.
  4. You probably will get a lot of result that contain jpg. So you need to locate the approximate position by pairing the words, and then find your target URL.
  5. If you find the URL of the image you want, then copy the URL to your browser, and then right-click the mouse to “save image as” after the image is loaded.
Yes, this method may be a little tedious, but still very useful. You can also apply it to download large photos from Twitter, Pinterest or other social media website.
